So I know it's been a week since we got back from our camping trip but it's been quite the busy week.
Just as a side note: This is a picture before we left! Just thought it was funny!
Ty's been saying for a long time that we ought to go to Gray's Lake and see the place his mom grew up. It's between Soda Springs, Idaho and Jackson, Wyoming. And since we thought most places would be PACKED on 4th July Weekend, we figured that very few people would be there. (It's a huge area with a population of 25-80 people, depending on the season).
We left here Friday night and made it to Gravel Creek Camp Ground, right outside of the Gray's Lake Rodeo Grounds, at about 11 pm. We decided to stay there for the night and find a more permanent and cheaper site in the morning. There were so many mosquitoes there! Holy Moley! We were definitely not staying there for too long. But the stars were so beautiful. Wow! We set up our sleeping bags and hit the sack.
Saturday morning the dogs and I got up and went for a walk. It was so pretty! Ty and Josie slept in for another hour or so. After breakfast we packed up and drove to see Ty's Grandparents ranch. We got some great pictures. It literally looked like a little house and yard you would see on a movie. Check it out! I love that one of Ty!
Ty really likes industrial art type of photos so I took a few to hang up in our collection.
We drove all over the place and took a few dead end roads with Sheep Herders camped out for the summer. It was all so beautiful!! We finally found the perfect camp site with no one else around.
After setting up camp and eating lunch we took a nap. Like Father like Daughter!
That afternoon we headed into Montpelier to see Ty's grandparents. We called Ty's dad to get their number. Ty's parents said they were in Soda Spring's for her High School Reunion and the rest of the family was camped at Bear Lake. It was so funny!
After a wonderful visit with Ty's grandparents we met up with the in-laws half way to Soda Springs so they could see Miss Josie! How random!
When we got to Soda at 8:30ish, we tried to find a place to eat, like a diner or cafe before we went to watch the fireworks. After looking around a little bit we stopped to ask the lady at the gas station. She just looked at me blankly and said that all the restaurants were closed for the fireworks at 10!! Seriously?! Well so we drove over the park where the fireworks were being shot off and they were charging to see them?? You've got to be kidding. So then we needed dinner and an ATM. We found a TacoTime/A&W/Gas Station Combo. The sign on the counter was hand written on a notebook paper...ACTUAL PRICES MAY VARY FROM PRICES LISTED! Wow! And the RootBeer and ATM were out of order!! Don't you just love small towns!
We were finally able to park outside of the park and watch the fireworks. They were surprisingly good!! Ty and I were amazed!
The drive home was quite an adventure. The road we came in on was a different road, so when we got to Blackfoot River Road we turned on it as this was the same road our campsite was on further up. Well aparently our map was nearly as detailed as it should have been and we probably weren't paying as close attention as we should have been, but we ended up back in Bear Lake county, 50 miles further south than we wanted to be! So we back tracked to the last turn off and took that instead...which took up to the entrance to an open pit mine!! Haha! At the time it wasn't that funny, cause we were really exhausted. Third time's a charm and this one took us straight to our camp, within 15 -20 minutes! Well anyways, at 3 am we pulled into our campsite fed Josie and went to sleep! We always have to have at least one adventure, right?
Josie did awesome the whole time! She slept through the night Saturday and Sunday nights.
We took her on a 3-4 mile hike on Sunday and she loved it!
Monday we packed up and drove to Lava Hot Springs to play in the pools and on the slides! She loved it there too! We stayed there for about 2 hours, she was just completely content. Ty and I had a good time too!
They have these really neat slides, sky high diving platforms and a rock climbing wall in the water! Lots of fun!!
Then we drove home and met up with Bob, Lo and Ava for a few hours before they headed home!
That was one of the most fun camping trips we've been on in a long time!! So much fun and relaxing!! Perfect!
P.S. This is another funny one of Josie at home! She's totally asleep, but hanging on for dear life! Haha!
