Some of you may recall in April, I blogged about my Mom's birthday and My sister, my sisters-in-law and my Mom were planning a trip to Portland Oregon. Well it came and went and was a blast! Here what we did.
The first day left Twin before the sun was up, drove to Boise and flew into to Portland. The flight went really well and we got an awesome view of the top of Mt. Hood from the window. Too bad I didn't have my camera out. (Ty and I are planning to go back and hike it one day. ) My sister, Christen drove from Clarkston, WA and picked us up at the airport. After checking into the hotel we headed up to the International Rose Test Gardens and took a MILLION pictures. I was joking with Ty about selling them as screen savers...and I may still do that. Who knows! :)
Then we saw the Japanese gardens and the Oregon Zoo before a huge storm came in and dumped rain everywhere. Luckily we were about done for the day and headed back to the hotel. We had planned on ordering pizza, but with all the stoplights out all over Portland we decided against that and ran across the street to the nearby Subway.
That night my sister-in-law, Danni, realized she had forgotten some very important medications that help her sleep at home and everything was essentially closed down for the evening. We had a special prayer that she would be able to sleep well that night and we would be able to find some medication in the morning.
Well all of our faith paid off, because she did sleep well and we were are to find a walk in clinic the next morning. The Lord was looking out for us, I'm sure of it.
For lunch we found a really great home town cooking place and I ordered Fresh Strawberry French toast that was super yummy!
We headed to the OMSI or the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry after lunch and looked about bunch of cool stuff. We went to a light show choreographed to the U2 soundtracks. It was neat, but maybe a little overpriced! We got some pictures of the infrared camera. It was amazing. Nearly my whole body was darker-meaning I was "colder" than everyone else!
After the museum and stopping off at the gift shop, we headed to the Rose Quarter to watch the Lipizzaner Stallions. It was really cool! I loved it when the horses jumped, skipped and did the "grapevine"!
Saturday we left for the coast. We listened to and sang along with Taylor Swift most of the way. It was really rainy and windy but it was fun! I got a few fun pictures on the rocks and in the water. We drove up the coast a little ways to Cape Meares Lighthouse and toured the lighthouse. For lunch we ate at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. I got fresh Clam Chowder and a warm cheese biscuit. It was super yummy and hit the spot with all the cold rain and wind we were in earlier. We toured the cheese factory and got some fresh ice cream too! I tried White Licorice and it was delicious!! I wanted to bring a bunch home with me...but no can do.
When we got back to Portland we decided to swing by the Dragon Moon Festival, an Asian Street Carnival. We watched some puppet dancing and headed off to look at some of the booths. Christen, Laura and I bought scarf tops that look really cool. Afterward we watched the cultural Lion Dances and headed to the Mongolian Grill in Vancouver, WA. We all hit the swimming pool after dinner and soaked in the very small, but soothing hot tub.
Sunday morning we woke up and head east of Portland to see the Multnomah Falls. We were able to spend a little time there before we made our way to the airport to head home.
It was a quick trip, but loaded with lots of excitement.
Thanks everyone for the wonderful, fun time we had! I love you all! :)
