Triathalon Training

Myself, Ty and my dad were picked to participate in the Spudman Triathlon, I was going to do the swimming, my dad the biking and Ty the running portion of the race. But unbeknown to us the fees were $70 PER PERSON not per team like we originally thought. So we declined that offer. Since then however I've been looking with the help of my brother to find something else to participate it.

I'm working as the wellness dietitian at work and we can earn up to $125 per 6 months for meeting certain criteria like eating right, exercising, balancing work and personal life and meeting your goals. Last week we all set a wellness goal that we could accomplish in the next few months. So I decided I would put down a goal about a relay race or triathlon. The only event I have ever participated in was the Tour de Cure cycling event for Diabetes last summer and the Run Walk or Stroll Fun Run, where I roller bladed, for my Dad's work when I was like 8 years old.

Sunday I had a few minutes to research a few of the events in the area and talked Ty into participating in the RUSH Rexburg Triathlon.

At first I was a little intimidated by a full Triathlon, but they have what they call a Sprint Triathlon, which consists of a 1/2 mile swim, 14.2 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run - half of a full Triathlon. For my first race I think this sounds do-able!

Since then I've been kicking up my workout schedule just a tad. I normally go the the YMCA near our house to run on the treadmill in the morning before work, but the other day it was a beautiful morning (70 degrees) and couldn't resist the fresh air. I ran for nearly 2.5 miles OUTSIDE! For any of you that know me, running this in the gym is normal, but to actually run outside for more than 0.5 mile is really something! It felt great!

This morning it was a little colder than it has been (40 degrees) and I didn't really feel like running either. I resigned myself to Pilate's at home. For any of you who haven't tried Pilate's with Two Hyper Dogs Jumping All Over You and Licking Your Face, you should really try it. It's way more challenging that traditional Pilate's and it's a complete workout jammed into just a few demanding minutes!! Hahaha.

That's it for now, but anyone who is interested feel free to register here and you can even tag along side during the race, but be prepared to get whooped! Hahaha! Just Kidding! Stay tuned for more details!

  1. Melissa, you are superwoman! Maybe one of these days if I can ever get into half as good of shape as you, I'll run a race with you. Until then...good luck! :)

  2. Good luck with the training! I'm sure you'll do great! Get tons of this type of thing in before you have little Ty's running around because it's a lot harder after you have kids!
